A 1978 law graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he holds an L.L.M degree (1994) in Maritime law from the IMO Maritime Law Institute, Malta. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1979. He is also a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Mr. Usman has attended several courses including the following among others; United Nation Centre on Transnational Corporation Workshop on Debt Management and International Finance, Abuja; Orientation to American Law Programme, University of California, Davis.

His career spans over twenty five years having worked in various establishments which include, Government House Kaduna (1979 – 1980); United Bank for Africa PLC (1980 – 1982); Buba Aliyu & Co (1982 -1985) and Nigeria Unity Line PLC (1996 – 2002). He was also part of the committee on Reform implementation in the Nigerian Shippers Council in 2006. His years of experience have made him versatile in the Nigerian legal system. His practice area is advocacy and arbitration. Mr. Usman is a Senior Partner with the firm and works full time.
